Fungal nails – what you can do about it at home?

Summer is here and it’s time to expose those toes and nails. But it looks like there is a little bit of yellow discolouration around the edges of the big toes. And they look thicker than normal. Even somewhat chalky and flaky.

Well here’s what you can do at home without spend a ridiculous amount of $$$$$$$.

Head to the medicine cabinet and paint a bit of that Vick’s Vaporub on the top of that nail daily. Yes, Vick’s Vaporub. A small study published in the Journal of the American Board of Family Physicians in 2011, demonstrated that Vick’s can help eliminate toenail fungus. In that report, 15 of 18 volunteers with fungus-infected toenails had significant improvements, and five had complete eradications of the fungus, after daily applications of Vicks for a year.

What can we do for you at the clinic?

Well the infection lays in the nail bed which is under the top layer of the nail. Filing off that top nail helps for the penetration of the Vick’s.

‘Low level laser therapy’ or the blue light is used at the clinic, which have been proven effective at breaking down the fungal membrane, causing structural damage.
